Ezekiel 42:1

Ezekiel 42:1 says, Then he brought me forth into the utter court, the way toward the north: and he brought me into the chamber that was over against the separate place, and which was before the building toward the north.  Matthew Henry says that Ezekiel was taken to where he would have an exact view of the temple and all the buildings associated with it.  God first brought Ezekiel to the utter or outer court to the north.  God allowed Ezekiel to see what the completed temple and everything associated with it would look like, and He allows us by faith to see His completed work of salvation when we put our faith in Jesus Christ.

Verse two adds, Before the length of an hundred cubits was the north door, and the breadth was fifty cubits.  Matthew Henry says that since we aren’t acquainted with the Hebrew language and architecture of that time it is somewhat hard to comprehend the mystical meaning of all of this, and I would have to agree with him.  Still, we don’t need to understand it all, because it no longer exists, being replaced by our putting our faith in Jesus Christ.  The first several verses refer to the chambers about the court and their location and structure.  What we need to understand is that God was the architect of the whole complex, just as He is the architect of our salvation today.

Verse three continues, Over against the twenty cubits which were for the inner court, and over against the pavement which was for the utter court, was gallery against gallery in three stories.  Matthew Henry says that these chambers were not in the temple but were close to it.

Verse four concludes, And before the chambers was a walk to ten cubits breadth inward, a way of one cubit; and their doors toward the north.  Ezekiel said there was a walkway to the doors to the north as I understand it.  God always provides us a walkway or path to salvation, and that is by putting our faith in Jesus Christ.
