Ezekiel 41:1

Ezekiel 41:1 says, Afterward he brought me to the temple, and measured the posts, six cubits broad on the one side, and six cubits broad on the other side, which was the breadth of the tabernacle. Ezekiel said God next brought him to the temple and measured it.  Ezekiel was a priest, was prevented from serving in the temple because it had been destroyed, but God was showing him the celestial temple that would never be destroyed according to Matthew Henry.  The posts were measured, indicating the size of the temple.  He had seen the courtyard and the steps to the tabernacle and now he was going to see the tabernacle itself.  Matthew Henry says there is disagreement about what this may mean to us today, but we do know that God already has our everlasting home prepared for us, so we don’t have to be concerned with the physical size of church buildings today.

Verse two adds, And the breadth of the door was ten cubits; and the sides of the door were five cubits on the one side, and five cubits on the other side: and he measured the length thereof, forty cubits: and the breadth, twenty cubits.  Ezekiel then tells us the size of the door of the temple.  The door was as wide as the whole tabernacle of Moses, according to Matthew Henry.  The church today is not limited to worshipping in a particular building, since as Christians our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Verse three continues, Then went he inward, and measured the post of the door, two cubits; and the door, six cubits; and the breadth of the door, seven cubits.  Next we are giving the size of the door posts.

Verse four concludes, So he measured the length thereof, twenty cubits; and the breadth, twenty cubits, before the temple: and he said unto me, This is the most holy place.  Then, Ezekiel was given the size of the temple’ which Matthew Henry points out was a perfect square.  God’s law is always the same whatever direction we approach it from, and Jesus Christ is the only way to enter into God’s presence, which was what the temple represented in that day.  God said this was a holy place, and since our bodies as followers of Christ are temples of the Holy Spirit, we can say that everywhere we go as we follow Christ is a holy place.
