Ezekiel 41:17 says, To that above the door, even unto the inner house, and without, and by all the wall round about within and without, by measure. God then spoke about what was to be above the door.
Verse eighteen adds, And it was made with cherubims and palm trees, so that a palm tree was between a cherub and a cherub; and every cherub had two faces; There was to be cherubim with two faces and palm trees, with a palm tree between each cherubim. Palm trees usually indicate peace and cherubim, or angels are God’s messengers, so we could see this as peace coming from above by God’s word.
Verse nineteen continues, So that the face of a man was toward the palm tree on the one side, and the face of a young lion toward the palm tree on the other side: it was made through all the house round about. God said the face of a man would face a palm tree from one side and the face of a lion the other and this would continue all the way around the house. Matthew Henry says this seems to represent the angels, who have more than the wisdom of men and more courage than a lion and in both of these things they have their eye toward victory and triumph. I believe that they could be symbolic of Jesus Christ, who is the Son of Man and the Lion of Judah and encircles everything, and He is also the Prince of Peace. Of course, there was more than one of these cherubim and palm trees, and there is only one Jesus Christ, so if they are symbolic of Jesus Christ, the fact that there were several would have to be seen as symbolic of one which could not be seen by only having one facing in one direction.
Verse twenty adds, From the ground unto above the door were cherubim and palm trees made, and on the wall of the temple. There were cherubim and palm trees from the ground to the area above the door, which would be consistent with this representing angels, but could also be symbolic of Jesus Christ being everywhere.
Verse twenty-one adds, The posts of the temple were squared, and the face of the sanctuary; the appearance of the one as the appearance of the other. Ezekiel said that the posts of the temple formed a square, with all sides being the same. God's judgment will always be the same for every person. We are all sinners who are either saved by grace or doomed to everlasting punishment. God’s grace is still there for everyone to claim, so He does not change His way to salvation for anyone.
