Ezekiel 23:18

Ezekiel 23:18 says, So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: then my mind was alienated from her, like as my mind was alienated from her sister.  God said that when the people of Judah began committing spiritual whoredom that He alienated Himself from them just as He had done with her sister, Israel.  Now, the vast majority God’s chosen people in both halves of the kingdom had turned away from God and He therefore removed is protection from them.  We cannot be a Christian nation if we turn our backs on God and begin to worship false gods and don't even acknowledge Him.

Verse nineteen adds, Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of her youth, wherein she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt.  God said the people of Judah had multiplied their unfaithfulness to Him, just as they had in Egypt. God had set them free of bondage in Egypt, but now they were in bondage once more because of their sin.  If we are to be a Christian nation, we need to follow God’s commandments and be obedient to Him by faith, and if we don’t, we need may find ourselves in bondage to sin once more, even if we aren’t physically in bondage.

Verse twenty continues. For she doted upon their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses.  God said that the people of Judah doted on the people of Babylon, even though they were no better than a donkey and their offspring were no better than horses.  Both an ass and a horse are animals to bear burdens with no say in whether they will or not.  If we reject God’s love and mercy, we are no better than animals that bear burdens without any say so in the matter.

Verse twenty-one concludes, Thus thou calledst to remembrance the lewdness of thy youth, in bruising thy teats by the Egyptians for the paps of thy youth.  God called on the people of Judah to remember how badly they were treated in Egypt before they called on Him by faith, and He delivered them.  As Christians, we were in bondage to sin before we came to God by putting our faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, and we should never return to putting our faith in anyone or anything other than Him.
