Daniel 10:10 says, And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands. Daniel said that when he was touched by this person that he was raised up from being flat on his face to being on his hands and knees. When we are in deep despair, God will slowly lift us up if we allow Him to. Verse eleven adds, And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling. Daniel was told to stand upright because this messenger was sent to Daniel. God's word for each individual should ultimately leave them standing by faith. Daniel did respond by standing, but he was still trembling. When we encounter God, we should tremble at His majesty and our sinfulness, because even when we are forgiven through our faith in Christ, we are still sinners. Verse twelve continues, Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. Daniel was told to not be afraid, because this messenger had come in answer to Daniel's prayers. Daniel had been sincere in his prayers, and God was faithful to answer them. Verse thirteen states, But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia. Matthew Henry states that even though Daniel had seen Jesus at first in his vision, that this was an angel. We can be certain that had this been Jesus that He would have needed no help in overcoming any adversary. Verse fourteen adds, Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days. The angel told Daniel his purpose for being there. Daniel had been in prayer about the Jews, and God sent an angel to tell him what was going to happen with them. I believe God will answer our prayers in such a way that we will always know the answer if we are truly listening, even if He has to send an angel to help us understand. Though I have never had an angel appear to me that I know of, I see nothing to say that they no longer do appear to people today.
